The child life profession continues to expand and meet pediatric mental health needs in psychiatric settings by providing a space for normalcy, inclusion, collaboration, and education. This abstract demonstrates the development of a child life program in a pediatric psych facility and the challenges of maintaining the unique role of a child life specialist.

Define role clarity, scope of position, and collaboration within interdisciplinary team and patients
Describe the interplay of medical trauma amidst other traumas in this patient population
Define appropriate child life interventions to teach emotional safety and expression within a psychiatric setting
Describe impact of child life role on the reduction of restraints and/or pharmacological intervention during patient escalations or medical procedures
