Prenatal psychosocial support is an overlooked but valuable aspect of child life services within Maternal Fetal medicine. This support includes introduction of services, assessment, building rapport, sibling interventions, and anticipated bereavement. This session will empower participants to advocate for their role and the psychosocial needs of families receiving prenatal support for chronic diagnoses, hospitalization, and family-centered end-of-life care. Objectives:
By the end of this presentation, participants will understand the scope of a child life specialist's role within prenatal care and be able to prioritize and create individualized psychosocial plans for anticipated family needs.
By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to define and advocate for family-centered end-of-life care and support staff in facilitating appropriate cultural, spiritual, and psychosocial interventions.
By the end of this presentation, participants will identify strategies for building their role in maternal fetal medicine and collaborating with different multidisciplinary teams.
By the end of this presentation, participants will understand the importance of continuity of care and strong rapport as families transition from the prenatal setting to an inpatient unit (labor and delivery, postpartum, NICU, pediatric acute care, etc.)
