Gloria Mattera is currently the Director of the Department of Child Life and Developmental Services at Bellevue Hospital. Bellevue is the flagship hospital in the NYC public hospital system serving a lower socio-economic, immigrant patient population. She has masters’ degree in special education, masters’ of education in Supervision and Administration and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Ms. Mattera has 30+ years of experience as a child life clinician and leader with an expertise in child protection and trauma.Ms. Mattera supervises a staff of 15 which includes child life specialists, infant-parent development specialists, creative arts therapists and the Reach Out and Read program.
Ms. Mattera is an experienced trainer and program developer in clinical supervision and reflective practice for child life programs.She has co-presented a full day intensive almost every year at the Association for Child Life Professionals (CLC) over the past 12 years and on four occasions at the Annual Child Life Directors’ Networking and Retreat.Ms. Mattera has provided on-site and virtual training and program development in clinical supervision and reflective practice as a private consultant for numerous child life departments nationally.
Through her experience working in the New York City public hospital system, Ms. Mattera has developed a passion for health care reform and health justice. She is a long time board member of Physicians for a National Health Program NY Metro Chapter and the Campaign for New York Health.
