Amanda has been a Child Life Specialist since 2010. Amanda is a senior child life specialist and currently serves in the hospital’s trauma department. As part of the psychosocial team, Amanda works with trauma patients and families throughout the hospital to provide a multitude of services such as diagnosis education, trauma debriefing, procedural support, non-pharmacological pain management strategies and grief/bereavement support. Prior to her role in trauma, Amanda held previous positions as the Child Life Zone coordinator and the child life specialist in the ARCH center, working with patients affected by extreme prematurity, HIV infection, physical/sexual abuse and neglect, as well as children in foster care. Amanda is a facility dog handler for the hospital’s Paws for Hope animal assisted therapy program. In addition to her clinical role, Amanda has served as a child life student supervisor and a mentor for new child life specialists. Amanda is an experienced presenter who has spoken at national and local conferences as well as routinely presented to other hospital staff, outside organizations and local college classes.
