Traumatic amputations or acquired limb loss due to trauma, are complex injuries that drastically affect children and create lifelong physical and mental implications. This presentation aims to examine the role of child life specialist in supporting patients undergoing traumatic amputations. Attendees will develop a deeper knowledge about traumatic amputations and the developmental and psychosocial implications. The presentation will focus on innovative ways to support patients undergoing traumatic amputations in order to maximize positive coping.

Develop a foundation of knowledge about pediatric traumatic amputations and treatment plans
Describe and identify developmental considerations and psychosocial needs when working with the traumatic amputation population
Identify and describe the role of child life specialist’s in educating and promoting coping using various interventions to support patients undergoing traumatic amputations
