Julie Piazza is a Senior Project Manager with the Office of Patient Experience and serves as Program Lead for the Patient & Family Life Specialty pilot for University of Michigan Health.
Julie is a Certified Child Life Specialist and has been for over 35 years serving pediatric patients and their families at University of Michigan Health and previously in Boston and Dallas health systems.In collaboration leading numerous multidisciplinary teams these efforst have facilitated pediatric and adult patient and family centered care initiatives across the care continuum. Many of these initiatives have been related to reducing pain and anxiety with needlesticks and procedures. Julie serves as the Interprofessional Research Lead for University of Michigan Health (UMH), whose mission is to support already existing UMH clinical practice by evidence, and to contribute to the development and dissemination of new evidence-based clinical practice in health and mental health.
Julie explores opportunities and connections to help contribute to innovations that can help improve outcomes for patients, families and healthcare clinicians.
Julie has built a national reputation building collaborative activities, projects and programs improving outcomes for children, families, and healthcare clinicians. Non-traditional and innovative are Julie’s favorites. Bringing public health awareness into resource limited communities are among her many innovative comunity centered projects.
On a personal note, Julie has shared her expertise with her husband James, their 3 adult sons, physician daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
She is a lover of books, play, coffee & chocolate, nature walks and good questions that spark even better conversations.
