Thomas (he/him/his) has spent his career in advocacy roles, working to ensure that groups who have historically been victims of inequity are given the resources they need to be healthy and empowered to challenge oppressive systems. Thomas spent five years as the Director of Children's Residential Services, guiding clinical and direct care staff on therapeutic techniques for building trauma-informed relationships with children and adolescents, including many queer and gender-diverse individuals. Most recently, Thomas was the Executive Director at his community's LGBTQIA+ community center, facilitating the expansion of preventative medical and behavioral health services for LGBTQIA+ individuals and also acting as an advocate for local housing and civil rights policy change. In October 2020, Thomas joined the Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion of University of Michigan Health - West with an initial and ongoing focus on the implementation of SOGI data collection and the development of supplemental educational and training material for all UMH - West employees.
