This presentation highlights current literature and case examples to fill the gaps in existing child development research to share cultural considerations throughout the patient care experience. Presenters will share how this institution’s DEI Committee has made strides to more adequality serve Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) patients, those who identify as part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, and patients and families whose first language is not English.

Objectives:
Participants will examine this child life department’s DEI Committee trajectory and learn from triumphs and the challenges that have surmounted over the years
Participants will discover how child life-owned play spaces can be utilized to nurture DEI initiatives; specifically, the celebration of historically marginalized holidays
Participants will engage in hands-on activities to deepen their understanding of the diverse patients and families that they serve and receive digital and physical materials that this child life department has utilized to provide care with cultural humility
